BRA Parks

There are six main Brazos River Authority (BRA) park areas that we will review here.  All of these parks have their pluses and minuses.  For most of the year, all of these parks are free to use for camping, day-use, and boat ramps.  During the busy summer season, some of the parks require a small day-use fee payable upon entry.  The BRA public use areas that have camping have campsites available on a first-come-first-serve basis.  There are no reservations for campsites within the BRA public use areas.  Some of the campsites have a daily fee during the summer months.

These park areas are easy to find off of the main Park Road 36.  There are plenty of signs along the road to help you find each of the park and boat ramp areas.

BRA Park Area #1

The #1 area is a pretty small park and camping area with just 30 campsites available.  There are some nice picnic tables here with grills that are great for camping or day-use.  This park area is free to enter and use year round.  There are restrooms located within the park.

BRA Park Area #2

The #2 area is a pretty nice little camping area that is located off of the lake.  This is more like an overflow area if all the other spaces are filled.  There are roughly 25 or so campsites here.  There are restrooms within the park.  There are no fees for use of the sites in this area year round.

BRA Park Area #4

The #4 area is the nicest park and camping area that the BRA offers.  This is a nice sized park with roughly 125 campsites total.  This area is split by FM 2951.  The area on the south side of FM 2951 offers up some really nice campsites some of which sit up on the hill overlooking the lake.  There are some nice restrooms within this park area and a very nice boat ramp. The north area #4 has some really nice campsites as well that sit along the banks of a cove. There is a very nice playground within the north area. Both areas are heavily treed and offer plenty of shade. If you are looking for the best BRA camping areas, both BRA #4 North and South are great places to camp.

There are fees of $3 per person per day for use of BRA #4 during the summer months.  Campsites are $10 per site per day during the summer months.

These spaces go quickly during the summer weekends and holiday weekends.

BRA Park Area #6

BRA Area #6 is one of our favorite day use and camping areas on the lake.  This park area is known as Sandy Beach for the long beach area that extends along the park.  This is a huge beach at the end of the main peninsula that extends into the lake.  There are numerous covered picnic tables along the beach.  There is a nice playground within the park as well as restrooms with showers.  This park does have a per person day-use fee of $3 during the week of June 28th to July 7th.  There is also a camping fee during the summer months of $10 per night per campsite.
